The Indian Water Carrier |
Original Painting by Stanley Port Acrylic on
canvas 50 x 40
cm |
The inspiration for this painting was an Indian peasant girl dressed in a colourful sari in Rajasthan, observed when travelling to the desert city of Jaisalmer.
The sari is the traditonal dress of women in India, consisting of a very long piece of cloth swathed around the body. Indian girls, such as this, traditionally
can carry heavy objects on their head, obviously an aid to good deportment!
