Giants Causeway in North Antrim

Giants Causeway in North Antrim
An Original Painting by Stanscapes:     Acrylics on Canvas 45 x 60 cm (18 x 24 inches)

The Giants Causeway was widely known during the 1700's as the eigth wonder of the world, when visitors flocked to the area to see the rare outcropping of igneous rock. The spectacular rock formation was formed about six million years ago when molten basalt rock was forced upwards, and then cooled and contracted to form the 40,000 tall hexagonal columns. This North Antrim coastline is extremely rugged and one of the Spanish Armada ships sank near here in 1588.
