Espalion and the River Lot Original Painting by Stanley Port Acrylic on canvas board 45 x 60 cm The little town of Espalion on the River Lot is in the French department of Aveyron. It has been, and remains, an important stopping-off point on the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain - the Way of St James. The Pont-Vieux is a lovely red sandstone packhorse bridge and the Vieux Palais on the left is a domed and turreted chateau dating from 1572.
